Buenos días señores y señoras. Bienvenidos a la lección doce de la clase de español.

Hoy, practicaremos las direcciones y cantaremos una canción navideña, pero primero revisaremos la tarea de la semana pasada.

1.     Disculpe ¿Hay una farmacia por aquí?
Sí, hay una farmacia ahí nada más. Mire, en la esquina, al lado del banco.

1.     Excuse me, is there a pharmacy nearby?
Yes, there is a pharmacy just there. Look, on the corner, next door to the bank.

2.    ¿Puede ayudarme por favor? ¿Dónde está la estación de trenes?
Sí, no está muy lejos. Todo recto por esta calle, cruce la carretera y está a la izquierda. Aproximadamente a diez minutos caminando.

2.    Can you help me please? Where is the train station?
Yes, it is not very far. Straight along this street, cross the road and it is on the left. About ten minutes walk.

3.    Disculpe ¿hay un hotel cerca?
Sí, el más cercano está en Westgate. Gire a la izquierda aquí y la primera calle a la izquierda es Westgate. El Bull Hotel está a cien metros a la derecha. Hay una imagen de un toro afuera.

3.    Excuse me, is there a hotel nearby?
Yes, the nearest is on Westgate. Turn left here and the first street on the left is Westgate. The Bull Hotel is 100 metres on the right. There is a picture of a bull outside.

3.    ¿Puede ayudarme por favor?, ¿Dónde puedo comprar gafas de sol?
Puede comprar gafas de sol en Boots, la farmacia. Gire a la izquierda aquí y
está cincuenta metros a la izquierda.

4.    Can you help me please? Where can I buy sunglasses?
You can buy sunglasses at Boots the pharmacy. Turn left here and it is 50 metres on the left.

5.    Excuse me, is there a bank near here?
Yes, there is one just there and another on the corner in front of the
cathedral.

5.    Disculpe, ¿Hay un banco cerca?
Sí, hay uno allí nada más y otro en la esquina delante de la catedral.

We are now going to help some Spanish speakers find their way around Peterborough. Does everyone have their notes from last week?

Here's a quick revision:

Está ahí nada más - just over there (a stone´s throw)

Por ahí - that way

Todo recto – straight on

Al final de la calle – at the end of the street

Gire a la derecha – turn to the right

Gire a la izquierda – turn to the left

La primera calle a la izquierda – first road on the left

La segunda calle a la derecha – second road on the right

La tercera calle – third road

No está muy lejos – it's not far away

Sí, está muy cerca – yes, it is very close

Es una caminata larga – it's a long walk

Está a doscientos metros de aquí – it's 200 metres from here

Está a solo cinco minutos de aquí – it's only five minutes from here

Positions:

al lado de – at the side of …

delante de – in front of …

enfrente de – opposite

detrás de – behind

entre – between

en la esquina – on the corner

a la vuelta de la esquina – around the corner

Here are some things you might find on your way:
